Performing Arts Workshop

Drama in the Theatre

Scandal hit the theatre workshop earlier this week as `wannabe´ director Jan, unbelievably, decided to change the group’s activity and produce Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet in 7 languages. “Why did he want to do this?” you may ask, and this is a question that, we think, will never be answered.

Originally the participants were to create a production about the twinning of the villages but changes were made against everyone’s wishes. According to all reports these changes were for the worse as no one seemed to be enjoying themselves. Jan had to be stopped! Enter Erich, our hero.

Having seen how the theatre workshop was being sabotaged by this mad man, Eric saved the day by sacking Jan. The end of Jan’s reign of terror came at the climax of a heated exchange of words. Jan was no more but the poor people taking part in the workshop were left with no leader and short of time. After a meeting involving everyone in the workshop, the decision was made to go back to the first plan. Whilst Romeo and Juliet in 7 languages would have been interesting, they do only have a week to put it together so focusing on the twinning is ideal.

At present the participants of the theatre workshop are back on the right track with the original plan being used. We can look forward to a production which involves singing, dancing and acting that looks back over the last 40 years of the partnership between the different towns. It has been reported here to us at camp news that the production will focus on each 10 years of the 40, presenting various images of each of these times.

All of the theatre workshop participants are working incredibly hard as they have less time to finish compared to other workshops. Whether the final product is a success or not, the people of the workshop must be praised for their effort over the last few days.

In the future, when looking back on this week, everyone will surely remember the day Jan came to town. We will also remember more fondly the day Erich sent him away.

The Sculpture workshop

Jo (B), Daphne, Jade, Franciele, Janine, Marion and Annemie worked the week at the sculpture workshop. They had plaster and silicone to make plaster cast from almost everything they want. (F or example: hands, lips, ears or of the Flag from Eicken-Bruche)

They had to make two different silicones together and put it on. For example, first push the palm of the hand into the silicone, then wait until the mould is hard. Next put out their hand and make another mould from the upside. After this, they put both moulds together an fill them up with plaster. After becoming hard, you have a plaster cast, which you can file with a small file.

One of the highlights was the plaster cast from the face of Jo. They put the silicone on his face and put two straws in his nose that he can breath. Another highlight was the cast from the arm of Franciele. They put the plaster around her arm and couldn’t get it up until they called for a paramedic which cut it.

The sculpture will be shown at the 4-village-meeting in the big tent. After this, the producer can take the sculpture home.

Workshop - Swedish fire

A small group of six teenager has signed in to build up Swedish fire and their task does not only consists preparing the trunks, they also has to do something for the view, that is why the has removed the bark of the logs and the reason why they will paint the logs.
At first I try to explain how to produce Swedish fire.
The group starts with removing bark, so they all take small axes and cut of crust, the reason is that it just look more pretty then with crust after this the workshop-leader cuts by using a chain saw a cross on the top side in order to help the teenager because they have to cut a vertex into the wood.
But it is not really special and because of being an European youth camp the members of the workshop planned to paint the logs in the colour of the national flag of the different countries.
The will prepared twelve logs and because six nations participate every country gets two logs in the colour of their nations.
When it is all done we wait until it is dark outside and that is the moment the workshop-members fill the hole with fuel paste and ignite it.
The difference between campfire and Swedish fire is that the Swedish fire burns from the inside out, sounds silly? It works! Generally you can also say that it is more clean than a normal fire because there is not much smoke and there is not much dirt because the ash falls together on one heap. An other advantage is that you need no special fireplace, you can ignite it nearly everywhere. At the end I hope we all together will have an cosy evening in front of our Swedish fire.

Europe Hut

Anuska, Daniella, Celine, James, Thomas, Daniel, Cedric, Mathieu, Erwan, Patric, Sami, Claus and Søren under the leadership of the German leader Christoph and two local carpenters, Martin Schleef and Michael Dittner, formed the group that was to build an “Europe Hut”. They started digging a deep hole formed as a hexagon and an aisle. This was hard work and several loaded wheelbarrows were driven away from the working place with grass and soil. At the beginning of the second day in the workshop the image of the hut became visible. Every side of the hexagon Hut each represents one of the six countries involved in the youth project and that will later be done visible by the six different flags. The pictures show the process of the hut taking form.

Media Workshop

Media Workshop – Webpage

Our group includes six members and we create a website (www.vier-doerfer-treff.de), the page includes informations about the youthcamp. An example of our work will be the portraits of every teenager here in Eicken-Bruche an other example is a camp diary written by Sönke, the diary includes the feeling and the action of him during the week.
We also write a lot of reports which will be included in the camp newspaper and also the other way round, we will use the reports the newspaper guys has written. At the beginning of the week our group has talked about the design we have planned to use and the reports we want to include.
So Fabrice converted what we want to do, he was also the guy who builds an camplogo special for the internetpresentation, this is important for the background of our webpage. At this moment we all write articles for the newspaper because we have to finish because it will be printed on Friday. It means a lot of work for us. When the newspaper is finished we primary work for the web page. We prepare the newspaper articles so we will be able to upload them. We will also upload pictures, Johannes has take the whole week.
